NVIDIA is getting ready to launch something significant for its next flagship GPU, based on a new leak. Alleged technical specifications revealed recently suggest that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 would be an absolute powerhouse, not only in terms of graphics processing power but also regarding energy consumption.

Renowned leaker kopite7kimi shared a list of supposed specifications for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 on Twitter, and the information is already generating excitement. The leaker also provided details about the RTX 5080, which is expected to follow in terms of performance.

Both graphics cards would be based on the Blackwell architecture, and their specifications would represent a significant leap in all aspects compared to the RTX 4090 and 4080, respectively. For the RTX 5090, NVIDIA is expected to equip it with a GB202-300 GPU featuring 21,760 CUDA cores, 32 GB of GDDR7 VRAM with a 512-bit memory bus, and a power consumption of 600 watts.

However, it is unclear whether this power consumption refers to the total graphics power (TGP), which includes the GPU and its printed circuit board but excludes lighting and cooling systems, or the total board power (TBP), which does include auxiliary system consumption. Regardless, this figure is 150 watts more than the default TGP of the RTX 4090, which is 450 watts.

While the information is still unofficial, it comes from a leaker known for accurately revealing such announcements. According to previous leaks, the memory speed of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 would be 28 Gbps, with a memory bandwidth of 1,568 GB/s.

If this is confirmed, it would represent a substantial improvement over the RTX 4090, which launched with 24 GB of VRAM (GDDR6X), a 384-bit memory bus, a memory speed of 21 Gbps, and a bandwidth of 1,008 GB/s.

The RTX 5080’s specifications would be less extreme than those of the 5090, but still impressive. This model would feature a GB203-400 GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores, 16 GB of GDDR7 VRAM with a 256-bit memory bus, and a power consumption of 400 watts.

As for pricing, there is no information yet. However, we can assume that both the NVIDIA RTX 5090 and 5080 will not be cheap. The current flagship models were launched at $1,599 for the RTX 4090 and $1,199 for the RTX 4080 (16 GB). Given the advancements represented by the new models, it wouldn’t be surprising if they are released at even higher price points.

There are currently no details on when the new NVIDIA RTX 5090 and 5080 might be launched. However, the recent leaks from kopite7kimi suggest that an official announcement could happen soon. The RTX 4080 and 4090 were presented in September 2022, so it’s possible that NVIDIA may opt to wait until early 2025 to showcase these models at CES in Las Vegas.
