Dell Technologies is pioneering a new era for telecommunications by introducing its Dell AI for Telecom initiative, designed to streamline and accelerate AI deployments for communication service providers (CSPs). At the Dell Technologies Forum, the company rolled out this strategic initiative to deal with the hurdles associated with AI adoption in the telecom industry.

According to a press release, a MeriTalk study by Dell Technologies revealed that 48% of executives within the telecom industry believe AI is the technology that will be most transformative over the next five years. On the other hand, 68% feel that they have a hard time catching up with the fast technological evolution and rising customer demands. Dell has launched its AI for Telecom program to fill this void by merging its AI expertise, infrastructure, and services with cutting-edge software and hardware from the wider AI ecosystem. Since these solutions are driven by AI, they will allow CSPs to boost network efficiency, refine customer service, and deliver greater value to the edge of the enterprise.

Dell Extends Partnership with NVIDIA

A key part of the initiative is Dell’s extended collaboration with NVIDIA, which aims to co-create and validate AI solutions tailored to the telecom sector. Through the Dell AI Factory, Dell and NVIDIA are working together to deliver cutting-edge AI-powered systems. Built on Dell PowerEdge servers and NVIDIA GPUs, these solutions enable CSPs to harness AI for several mission-critical tasks:

  • Enhancing customer care and network maintenance through the Amdocs amAIz platform.
  • Automating customer care operations with Iternal, utilizing advanced AI models.
  • Performing network troubleshooting and analysis using Kinetica SQL-GPT.
  • Developing digital twins for networks and implementing predictive maintenance with Synthefy.

Dell is especially equipping its compact PowerEdge XR8000 servers for edge computing in telecom networks with NVIDIA L4 Tensor Core GPUs. These modular and scalable servers enhance deployment ease and support diverse AI-focused use cases at the edge. On top of that, Dell is helping CSPs in the formulation and deployment of GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaaS) services. This offers CSPs the opportunity to provide enterprise customers NVIDIA GPU resources on demand, which in turn helps them scale their AI deployments while ensuring they keep data ownership and can use carrier-grade, low-latency AI for both inference and training close to the data. The role of Dell Professional Services is essential during the strategy, implementation, and operation phases of these AI solutions for CSPs.

Collaborations with Global Telecom Operators

NVIDIA is not the end of Dell’s work. The company is in partnership with other prominent telecom operators to push forward the development of AI innovation. Dell, in partnership with Lintasarta, an Indonesian ICT solutions provider, and SK Telecom, has created and deployed AI solutions of the next generation at the Dell Telecom Open Ecosystem Labs.

Lintasarta is introducing GPU Merdeka, a Service powered by Dell’s PowerEdge XE9680 servers and NVIDIA GPUs, to give Indonesian businesses access to the contemporary AI infrastructure. This service is vital for the provision of the computational resources needed for AI tasks with high demand, helping to speed up innovation for national enterprises.

In collaboration with SK Telecom, Dell is establishing the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) AI Platform to embed AI into existing business support systems (BSS) in South Korea. This platform strengthens telecom business functions, triggers revenue growth, and enhances faster, more efficient customer service by making processes easier and diminishing the impact of legacy systems. The purpose of SK Telecom’s MNO AI Platform is to utilize large language models (LLMs) to boost customer support while simplifying API calls for quick troubleshooting.

Transforming Telecom Networks with AI

Ronnie Vasishta, NVIDIA’s senior vice president for Telecom, stated, ” Telecom networks provide a critical fabric to bring AI applications to consumers and enterprises at scale. With NVIDIA’s AI suite, Dell is accelerating the adoption of AI factories, AI-powered operations, and AI-RAN in telecom, while helping communications service providers apply these technologies to augment their own network operations and enhance customer experiences.”

Similarly, Anthony Goonetilleke, Group President of Technology and Head of Strategy at Amdocs, highlighted the significance of this partnership: ” Our collaboration with Dell Technologies uses the Dell AI Factory and Amdoc’s amAIz platform to deliver AI solutions that will transform business operations for communications service providers and accelerate GenAI adoption.”

AI Solutions Availability

The jointly created AI solutions by Amdocs, Iternal, Kinetica, and Synthefy are on the market as of today. In addition, the deployment of the Dell PowerEdge XR8000 server with NVIDIA L4 Tensor Core GPUs is now complete. Dell Technologies is making important headway in promoting AI adoption across the telecommunications sector, which offers CSPs the opportunity to improve network performance as well as customer satisfaction and to generate new revenue streams.
