Anthropic has announced a major update that links Claude to Microsoft 365. The change lets Claude read and reason about files, emails, meetings, and chats stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams. This move aims to bring workplace context directly into the assistant so teams can get answers and summaries without moving data around.
The new Microsoft 365 connector is available now for organizations using Claude on Team and Enterprise plans. Administrators must enable the integration before individual users can connect their accounts. Once enabled, Claude can search documents, analyze message threads, and pull meeting summaries into a single conversation. Anthropic also built a shared project space to help teams curate what Claude can see.
Microsoft 365 Integration
The integration is built on Model Context Protocol, which is an open standard for connecting AI models to data and apps. Microsoft has been promoting MCP across its tools and Windows to help make AI features safer and easier to deploy. Anthropic used an MCP connector so Claude can access data in real time while observing enterprise security controls. This design means Claude does not require manual uploads to do useful work.
For end users, the update changes how they work. A person can ask Claude to summarise the latest emails on a project, find the next key milestone in meeting notes, or surface files linked to a client. Claude can use the context from calendars and chat threads to produce responses that are grounded in a team workflow. Administrators keep control over which sources are available and how they are curated.
Anthropic and Microsoft have been moving closer in recent months. Microsoft has started offering Anthropic models inside parts of Microsoft 365 Copilot and in GitHub tools. That model choice and the MCP connectors let enterprises use Claude alongside other models and agents inside a governed environment. The partnership gives customers more options for how AI assists their daily work.
Enterprise Search Power
Anthropic also launched an enterprise search feature that stitches together data from many tools into a searchable index for a company. This feature creates a shared project area where teams can tell Claude which sources to include and how to surface results. Enterprise search is meant to speed onboarding, answer strategic questions, and find the right expert inside large teams.
This feature is useful when knowledge is spread across multiple systems. Human users often waste time gathering materials from different apps. With enterprise search, Claude can pull relevant passages from documents and build a short synthesis. That reduces the friction of context gathering and keeps more of the work inside a single conversational flow.
Security and governance are part of the rollout. Microsoft and Anthropic built the connector to fit enterprise controls. MCP servers and connector infrastructure can support network isolation, data loss protection, and existing authentication methods. Administrators will set boundaries that match company policy before Claude can access sensitive sources. These controls aim to balance utility with risk management.
