OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Pulse for Pro Daily Briefs

OpenAI has introduced a new feature called ChatGPT Pulse. The tool creates short personalized reports while users sleep and then shows them in the morning. The feature is available first to Pro subscribers.

How Pulse Works

Pulse makes five to ten short cards each day for a user. Each card covers a useful topic. The cards can include news summaries, agendas, and trip notes. Users can open any card and ask follow-up questions. Pulse can use the apps that a user connects to ChatGPT. That includes calendar and email apps when the user opts in.

Pulse appears as a new tab in the ChatGPT app. It stops after a few cards and shows a message that no more briefs are coming for the day. OpenAI said that the choice is deliberate to avoid the design of social apps that keep people scrolling. The feature is computationally heavy, so it is on the highest paid plan first.

Privacy and Limits

Pulse can read email and calendar data only if a user allows that access. OpenAI says the app will cite sources in its summaries and let users dig into the details. The company also said that it will expand access to more subscribers once the cost and efficiency improve. Sam Altman called Pulse one of his favorite new features.

OpenAI is clear that Pulse is meant to help users start the day in a focused way. The company also said the tool will be expanded over time to add more automation. In the future, Pulse could offer actions such as drafting messages or booking reservations that a user can approve. For now, the focus is on simple, concise briefs.

Pulse can rebrand the way individuals utilize ChatGPT. It takes the product closer to a model whereby the assistant is the one who takes action, not only when requested. That will bring up new privacy trust and the extent to which people would like to trust automation. OpenAI claims that it will include controls and optional integrations.

Pulse is available to those subscribers to the Pro plan who observe the new tab in the app. Pulse will be opened up to additional users in the months to come.
