Google is rolling out a new Purchases tab in Gmail that gathers order and shipping emails into a single view. The feature will help users find tracking numbers delivery windows and past receipts without searching through many messages. The update is available on web and mobile and will reach personal Google accounts in stages.
New Purchases Tab
The Purchases tab collects confirmations shipping notices and receipts so users can see what is on the way and what has already arrived. Gmail will still surface items that are due in the next 24 hours at the top of the inbox. The new view simply puts all purchase related messages in one place for quick review. Users can search in the tab to locate an old order or check a tracking number for a recent purchase.

Promotions and Alerts
Google is also improving the Promotions section so users can sort offers by most relevant. The update aims to make it easier to find deals from favorite brands during busy shopping periods. Gmail will also nudge users about timely offers and sales so they do not miss limited time discounts. The company says these changes will be useful during heavy shopping weeks such as the run up to Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.
How to access
Look for a Purchases tab alongside Primary and Social in Gmail. If the tab does not appear yet update the Gmail app and check again in a few days as the roll out continues. Users who prefer not to use the feature can leave the tab alone and continue with their current inbox setup.

Why it matters
Many people receive multiple shipping updates every week and tracking them can be tedious. The new Purchases tab saves time and reduces the need to open individual emails. It also helps when a user needs to find a past receipt for returns or expense reports. For people who shop often the feature should make order tracking simpler and faster.
