OpenAI announced that it will acquire Statsig for about $1.1 billion in an all stock deal. The company said the move will help build its Applications business and speed product testing and experiments.
The founder and chief executive of Statsig Vijaye Raji will join OpenAI as the chief technology officer of Applications. He will lead product engineering for ChatGPT Codex and other apps inside OpenAI.

Deal and Terms
OpenAI described the pact as an all stock transaction valued at 1.1 billion dollars based on the company valuation at the time. The deal is subject to regulatory review and customary closing conditions. OpenAI said Statsig will continue to serve its existing customers from its Seattle office after the acquisition closes.
Statsig built a platform that lets engineering and product teams run experiments test features and measure impact. OpenAI said bringing that experimentation platform inside will speed product development for its consumer and enterprise offerings.
Team and Roles
OpenAI announced a set of leadership moves that align with the acquisition. Kevin Weil will move from chief product officer to lead a new organization called OpenAI for Science. He said the goal of that team will be to build AI tools that help scientific discovery.
Srinivas Narayanan will change roles and become chief technology officer of B2B applications. He will focus on enterprise offerings and will work closely with the operations leader who manages product relationships with business customers.
Why it matters
OpenAI has been building a broader product team under the new head of Applications Fidji Simo. The company is pushing from research to products and services. The Statsig tools are widely used by engineering teams for safe rollouts and for measuring user level effects. That expertise fits OpenAI’s push to ship more consumer facing and business facing applications faster.
Bringing experimentation in house could shorten cycles for testing new features. It could also let OpenAI measure changes to safety and quality more quickly as it deploys updates. That may be a strategic advantage in a field where real time metrics and rapid iteration matter.

Risks and next steps
The transaction is large and will draw regulatory review. OpenAI said the acquisition is pending standard approvals and closing conditions. Market watchers will track how the integration works and how existing Statsig customers are supported during the transition.
OpenAI will also need to show how the new leadership structure supports both rapid product work and long term research. The company moved a senior product executive into a science role and shifted engineering leaders into enterprise roles. Those moves show an attempt to balance product speed with foundational work.
