Samsung, a major company in tech, aims to replace silicon with glass in computer chips by 2028. With this change, phones, robots, and computers will benefit from faster, more cost-effective, and improved artificial intelligence (AI).

Why Glass is Better Than Silicon

Glass Costs Less Money
Since most chips today use silicon, silicon prices have climbed. Since glass is cheaper, Samsung does not need to spend too much money. It is crucial since firms want to add numerous AI chips to their smart devices.

Glass Stays Strong When Hot
The harder chips work, the hotter they get. While silicon can be bent or broken when it is hot, glass does not bend and stays tough. Chips that are kept out of the light are less likely to break and will function well.

Tiny Parts Fit Perfectly
Each AI chip has a large number of very small wires. Thanks to glass, the company can build smaller and exact wires for its displays. Suppose you make a tiny city where all of the roads and houses fit with each other. This is made possible with glass inside the chips.

How Glass Makes AI Faster

Data Moves Like a Racecar
A GPU, the brain in an AI chip, must pass information rapidly to the memory where data is saved. Triggering memories is easy because information can flow along a smooth pathway. Because AI is fast, it can spot faces and offer quick answers.

Fewer Mistakes in Factories
Unlike silicon, glass remains straight without bending as you make chips. Using the computer, the plant can save both time and money. In its factories, Samsung is now working with small glass sheets as it looks ahead to 2028.

What Are Glass Interposers?

Tiny Bridges Inside Chips
Each glass interposer serves as a thin link that brings different parts of a chip together. Without these pathways, our brain and memory do not operate correctly. Glass helps make these bridges tougher and easier to cross.

Problems Samsung Must Solve

Small Panels for Faster Tests
Most companies use big glass sheets. Samsung uses smaller ones to test ideas faster. Think of baking a small batch of cookies to get the recipe right before making a huge batch.

Other Companies Want Glass Too
AMD and Intel are also trying glass. But Samsung has a secret weapon. It makes its own memory and chips, so customers can buy everything from one place. This might make Samsung the top choice for AI tech.

What This Means for You

Using AI chips that are faster makes gadgets smarter. Your phone can react to queries much faster, robots would pick up new activities more efficiently, and doctors would spot illnesses sooner. Samsung’s glass chips might cost less, making gadgets cheaper too.

Samsung’s plan is like building a new road for the future, according to ETNews. As one engineer said, “Glass is the superhighway chips need.” If it works, your next phone or computer could be powered by glass, not silicon.
