Bethesda’s highly anticipated DLC, Starfield: Shattered Space, is set to launch more than 50 new locations, empowered enemies, and, as always, repulsive grenades. Announced in a tweet from the official Bethesda’s X (formerly Twitter) account, the DLC will be released on September 30, 2024, and provide new missions, as well as an exciting addition to the Starfield universe.
Va’ruun Homeworld and More Locations
Among the most surprising is the scale of the Va’ruun homeworld, which will be large and releases threats that the players were not prepared for in their wildest dreams. This planet highlighted in this DLC comes with more than 50 new environments together with hand-crafted ones in addition to the ones offered in the game. Players can look forward to new territories they can traverse, but also new foes they face such as the ‘Redeemed’ and the as of yet unexplained ‘Vortex Horrors.
New Enemies and Craftable Grenades
As for the gameplay, new enemies will be more difficult for players to face in Shattered Space. In addition to Redeemed and Vortex Horrors, Zealots and space pirates are back in action, whereas Crimson Fleet also appears when the opportunity arises. Bethesda has teased resurrecting factions from the base game such as the Crimson Fleet, the Vanguard, and the Rangers; however, their part in the expansion is still uncertain.
Regarding weapons, Bethesda assures that the gamers will be able to create new, disgusting grenades made of the organic substance discovered on the Va’ruun home planet. Called ‘Gross’ these bombs would introduce a new and terrible facet to warfare into the genre of war. Looking at it in this manner is quite intriguing as it suggests that Bethesda can be prepared to take the gameplay experience in quite unusual directions.
Considering how Bethesda approaches this theme, the First-Year Celebration outlines Fallout Comparisons, which are hard to imagine without Starfield’s Fifth Anniversary since its announcement. The Shattered Space DLC is their first major story expansion and is compared to Fallout: Far Harbor – a standalone adventure, which was developed to test new concepts. Despite the fact that Shattered Space was advertised for as many months as its current parent company, Bethesda has not shared a gameplay trailer, thus creating the hype around it.
New Mods Make Space Combat Deadlier
Anticipating Shattered Space, fans have not stopped inventing different options that can enrich the experience in Starfield. FlippingEggs, a modder who has made one of the most substantial revamping of space combat, increasing the level of challenge by reprogramming enemy ships and increasing players’ risks. Ships from the enemy faction can spot you from farther away, and non-hostile ships often surrender on the first attempt, which makes space combats more strategic compared to the basic BattleTech.

FlippingEggs’ mod is another addition to Starfield’s combat in space that complements the higher difficulty in Shattered Space. Some will even be evidently harder to overcome, and with smarter AI, players shall have to be smarter if they are to survive the expanded Starfield universe.
As fans eagerly await the release of the Shattered Space DLC, there is much more on the horizon such as exploration of 50 new sites, victory over stronger opponents, and, of course, the novel and incredibly disgusting types of weapons. The willingness to play with the expansion shows Bethesda’s commitment to building an expansive game with plenty of variety to the gameplay experience. As the date comes closer, game enthusiasts are looking forward to getting more insight into what this DLC is all about. Until then, the picture of the galaxy is shrouded in mystery, and its unseen corners are concealed in the veil of darkness.
