Starfield has over a thousand planets and many characters. Players can recruit several crew members for their journey. The Adoring Fan is one of the most controversial companions. This character is a tribute to a similar character from Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Like in that game, he can become very annoying to the player.

At first, his praise might seem charming, but it soon feels overwhelming. He can even become a liability. Fortunately, Bethesda anticipated this issue and provided solutions. The player can send him to an outpost, remove him from the crew, or even kill him.

His Name Changes, and You Might Lose the Hero-Worshipped Trait
The Adoring Fan wants to follow the Starborn everywhere. This disrupts the player’s need for peace and quiet. Hearing constant praise ruins the feeling of exploring a new planet. The player can kill the Adoring Fan with certain dialogue options after he joins the crew. However, there’s a surprise for those who refuse him from the start.
When the player chooses the Hero-Worshipped trait, the Adoring Fan appears after landing in New Atlantis. He claims he saw the Starborn’s actions on Vectera. He then asks to join the crew. The player can accept or refuse him. If the player kills him, his name changes to Former Fan. This change doesn’t happen if he joins the crew before being killed.
The Adoring Fan Can Join in a New Game or Starborn Run
He Can Be Annoying but Is Great at One Specific Skill
You can only choose the Hero-Worshipped trait during character creation. Thankfully, starting a new Starborn run lets you pick new traits. This means you don’t have to restart completely to add or remove the Adoring Fan.
Despite being annoying, the Adoring Fan has some benefits. His Weight Lifting perk gives him the highest carry weight among companions. This is great for players who need extra space for loot. He also supports every player action, so Starborn pirates won’t see the “companion disliked that” message when attacking trader ships.
