Android 15 may have a new desktop-style taskbar for smartphones

Google is expected to overhaul several items in the Android 15 interface, including notifications that take up less screen space while watching videos and playing games, and a new taskbar that should also be available for smartphones. Until now, it has only been seen on tablets but is expected to become non-exclusive.

This new feature was discovered by Mishaal Rahman in the code of Android 15 Beta 4, which mentions a reduced version of the taskbar that can be enabled to access recently opened apps with just a gesture from the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.

It is possible to notice that the feature is not finalized, as some animations have minor issues. This makes us wonder if Google will actually release this feature with Android 15, but it would be a great addition to enhance app switching in the system.

Finally, Google is also changing the behavior of the Android 15 taskbar, which now is no longer fixed on the screen of tablets but can be shown at any time with a short gesture from top to bottom on the navigation bar.

However, there is also a button to keep it visible all the time at the bottom of the screen, which can be very useful for those who want a desktop-like experience on tablets.
