In WoW, zooming out as far as possible is ineffective if objects like trees, lanterns, and other items in the character’s field of view cause the camera to zoom in on your character. For some players, this camera clipping in tight spaces can even cause motion sickness. Thanks to a new feature in The War Within, this issue is now resolved.
With the pre-patch for TWW, “we finally have the technology,” as they say. You can use a console command to choose whether you want to enable or disable camera collision.
Console command for Camera Collision
To enable or disable camera collision in WoW (World of Warcraft), you can use console commands. Here’s how to do it:
Enabling or Disabling Camera Collision
Open the Console:
- Press Esc to open the game menu.
- Click on System and then Advanced.
- Check the box labeled Enable Console if it’s not already checked.
- Press Enter to close the menu.
Access the Console:
- Press the ~ key (tilde) or / key to open the console command input.
Enter the Command:
- To disable camera collision, type the following command and press Enter:
- /console cameraCollision 0
- To enable camera collision, type the following command and press Enter:
- /console cameraCollision 1
Close the Console:
- Press the ~ key (tilde) or / key again to close the console command input.
Below, you can see what the new camera setting looks like in the game:
WoW content creator Bellular demonstrates the new feature in his video starting at 4:34. First, he shows the old setting where the camera repeatedly collides with objects like trees.
He then demonstrates how the same camera movement behaves with the new feature. In this example, you no longer see your character behind the tree, and the annoying zoom that discomforts some players has been removed.
However, the new camera option does not work everywhere. When objects become too large, such as walls or big hills, the camera zooms back in on your character.
