A significant unnamed Chinese manufacturer has ceased receiving deliveries from Intel. Reuters previously stated that chipmakers like Qualcomm and Intel couldn’t supply to Huawei anymore, as their licenses were revoked by the US.

This Chinese company is now almost unable to make new computers with x86 chips, as AMD also didn’t get a license to sell its processors to Huawei.

The same restriction affects Qualcomm. They can’t sell ARM chips to Huawei anymore. Qualcomm chips are mainly used in smartphones and soon in some Windows laptops.

“Huawei is a threat,” told US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo after a congressional hearing. “As we learn more about AI capabilities, then we have to do something. If a chip that we previously licensed suddenly has AI capabilities, then we will revoke the license,” she said.

We’re discussing Intel’s latest Core Ultra chips, which are also made for AI tasks with an NPU. This also includes most chips from AMD, Qualcomm, and Apple. All of them would be affected by such a ban.
