Starfield Update Introduces DLSS on PC, Drastically Improving Performance

Bethesda has released a robust Starfield update that, among other things, adds official DLSS support to the game on PC. The patch, previously available only in beta on Steam, can now be downloaded by all players on Xbox Series and PC (Steam).

The difference in performance on the computer before and after the update is substantial. Using a Ryzen 7 3800X and a GeForce RTX 4070, I’m able to run the game at 4K and 60+ fps with graphics settings on Ultra, DLSS set to Quality, and Frame Gen enabled. This is in New Atlantis, one of the game’s most demanding locations.

Other exclusive additions for the PC version include the inclusion of DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) and Nvidia Reflex, along with GPU performance optimizations that “will have a greater impact on more advanced video cards” and improvements in the “rendering threading model, enhancing CPU usage, especially on more advanced systems.”

Taking into account the Xbox Series version, there’s now the “ability to consume food and drinks found in the environment,” eliminating the need to store them to do so. There have also been numerous stability and performance improvements, gameplay fixes, visual adjustments, and bug fixes for certain missions.
