Elon Musk, who’s now in charge of Twitter\X, has said they’re thinking about changing the “block” feature on their social media site. This feature helps you stop certain people from talking to you, seeing your posts, or following you. But now, Musk mentioned they might remove this feature, except for private messages (DMs), where it will still work.

Musk shared this news when someone asked if blocking is different from muting. Muting hides someone’s posts, but they won’t know you did it. Musk seems to believe that the block feature doesn’t really make sense and wants to change it.
On his Twitter\X handle Musk wrote “Block is going to be deleted as a ‘feature’, except for DMs,” followed by “Makes no sense.” The post was a response to a Tesla fan account who asked whether there was any reason to use block instead of mute.

People are worried that if blocking goes away, things might get worse on the platform. Some users use blocking to stop people from bothering them. For example, places like the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum use blocking to stop mean replies to their tweets about victims of the concentration camp.

This isn’t the first time Musk has made changes since buying the platform. He already brought back accounts that were banned before, even Donald Trump’s account. Some think these changes have made more mean comments and hate speech.
So, this change to the block feature is a big deal, and lots of people are watching to see how it might change the online world and keep people safe.
