Razer’s Ultralight Gaming Mouse: Viper V2 Pro
Razer continues to expand its range of ultralight Viper mice, pushing boundaries further by delivering a model even lighter than before. As of our current writing, it proudly claims the title of the lightest wireless gaming mouse on the market. Weighing in at 58g, the Viper V2 Pro surpasses the excellent Viper Ultimate at 74g, as well as the Logitech G Pro X Superlight (63g), and many competing wired mice. While others still hold the records in the realm of ultra-lightness (notably the Cooler Master MM710 at 53g). Razer comes remarkably close despite its built-in battery.

As we will soon see, the manufacturer had to make some compromises to achieve such a feat. The Viper V2 Pro may not be for every gamer, especially considering its price tag of US$113on the official brand website.
Razer Viper V2 Pro Ergonomics
Design and Build
The Viper V2 Pro seamlessly fits into the Viper series, closely resembling the Viper Ultimate. However, upon closer inspection, certain elements have been altered to shave off a few grams here and there, achieving an astonishingly light weight of 58g. Notably, the secondary buttons on the right side have been removed, making the mouse no longer ambidextrous. The plastic shell is now smooth, devoid of the non-slip coating on the sides.
While this affects grip, Razer has thought ahead by including adhesive strips in the box to manually add this coating. These strips can be applied to the left and right edges, as we have chosen to do, and even on the main mouse buttons for improved overall grip. Of course, installing these elements adds a bit of weight, but it remains marginal; with our two adhesive strips, the scale registers a mere 58.5g, so expect around 59g with all four.
Texture and Grip
While this solution may initially seem questionable, the quality of the coating is surprisingly good, and the rubberized “snake skin” texture provides excellent finger grip. This allows users the option to customize the mouse’s aesthetic. The grip is comfortable, though not as ergonomic as models like the Basilisk. Its size should accommodate most users’ preferred grip styles, from palm grip to claw grip and fingertip grip. Its extreme lightness allows for smooth manipulation on the mousepad, ideal for games requiring large, rapid movements (such as in an FPS).

Razer Viper V2 Pro Design Details
Another change on the Viper V2 Pro is the absence of backlighting on the brand logo at the back of the mouse, replaced by a simple black print. RGB enthusiasts may be disappointed, but this is the trade-off for further weight savings. Charging the mouse is no longer possible via a dock, a feature found in the Ultimate model. Instead, the Viper V2 Pro comes with a braided USB-C cable, and Razer, as usual, includes a small adapter to connect the 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed receiver.
This allows the cable to be kept within reach in case of low battery, occupying only one USB port on the computer. The wireless connection thus maintains minimal latency, though Bluetooth connectivity is not an option here. Battery life has also been extended in this new generation. Boasting 80 hours according to the brand, providing ample gaming sessions before needing a recharge.
Button Configuration
In total, there are only six buttons on the mouse, with five being easily accessible and customizable. The primary buttons accommodate fingers comfortably and are highly responsive, as Razer has retained optical switches that are faster than traditional mechanical ones, now in Gen 3. These switches are activated by a light beam rather than physical contact, which increases their lifespan, warranting the mouse for 90 million clicks.
The two secondary buttons are not quite as prominent, but they are perfectly stable – a feature not always found in some mice – and very responsive. The scroll wheel, like in all Viper models, is quite basic. Its notches are sharp and precise, a positive for gaming, but it lacks an optional smooth scroll or horizontal scroll. However, it does feature a clickable scroll for an additional shortcut.
Sensitivity and Customization
Sensitivity levels can be adjusted using the last button located… underneath the mouse. This placement may be somewhat inconvenient for on-the-fly adjustments. Up to five sensitivity levels can be assigned, with a small LED above the scroll wheel indicating the active sensitivity with a color code (red for 400 DPI or green for 800 DPI, for example).
Naturally, these levels can be manually fine-tuned in the Razer Synapse software, along with the shortcuts provided by the various mouse buttons. Next to the power/DPI button are PTFE feet ensuring smooth gliding for the Viper, along with its optical sensor, which we’ll discuss shortly.

Precision
Focus Pro 30K Optical Sensor – Razer Viper V2 Pro
Razer has equipped the Viper V2 Pro with a Focus Pro 30K optical sensor, a new model developed in partnership with PixArt, as always. According to Razer, it offers better energy efficiency compared to its predecessor, the Focus+, thus enhancing the mouse’s battery life while slightly increasing its precision. It supports accelerations of up to 70g and its sensitivity can be extended up to 30,000 dpi.
Practical Application
In practice, these impressive figures have little relevance, as setting the Viper at such a level would have it traverse a 4K screen with just a few millimeters of movement. The Focus+ was already an outstanding sensor based on the PMW3399, known for its precision. This Focus Pro now stands as a benchmark, possibly even the best sensor currently available. It’s flawless and furthermore, it’s compatible with all surfaces, including glass, which is quite rare for a gaming model, even though this usage is quite situational, it must be admitted.
