Good news for all those who were hoping to see their favorite characters from ‘The Legend of Zelda’ beyond the video game console. Nintendo has given the green light to the development of a live-action movie based on the popular franchise.
We are facing the second major cinematic project from the Japanese company in recent times. Just over a year ago, let’s remember, they announced the arrival of Super Mario Bros. on the big screen. Now it’s the turn of another classic and well-known title.
The Live-Action Movie of ‘The Legend of Zelda’, On the Way
There aren’t too many details about the movie yet, but Nintendo provided some interesting information this Tuesday that allows us to start getting an idea of the project. First of all, we know that it will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc.
The mentioned production company is headed by Avi Arad, who is known in the film industry for having been the creative director of Marvel Entertainment and president and CEO of Marvel Studios during times like ‘Spider-Man’.
Nintendo will be represented in the project by Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary creator of the ‘The Legend of Zelda’ franchise, and others like ‘Mario’ and ‘Donkey Kong’. “I’ve been working on the live-action movie of The Legend of Zelda for many years,” he said.
We also know that the movie will be funded “over 50%” by Nintendo and the rest by Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. This latter company will be responsible for its distribution in cinemas worldwide. When will it arrive? We don’t have a precise date.
“It will take time until it’s finished, but I hope you’ll be eager to see it,” Miyamoto said. So, even though the project has been in progress for years, we’ll have to be patient and wait sometime before we can finally enjoy it on the big screen.
