“Google Bard” chatbots can now search for answers from “Gmail,” “Docs,” and “Drive” services

In early February of this year, Google introduced its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot “Bard,” which previously only searched the web for answers to user questions. However, the company has now made this robot much more useful and practical, as it is capable of finding the necessary information using Google services such as “Gmail,” “Docs,” “Drive,” and others.

The company explains that with the new integration, a user can ask “Bard” to perform actions such as finding and summarizing the content of “Gmail” emails or searching for specific information from documents stored in “Drive.” Although these services already have filters in place for quicker information retrieval, “Bard” chatbot may find what is being searched for much faster, provided that the query is correctly and precisely formulated.

These integrations, referred to by Google as extensions, can be used in many cases, especially for work or study purposes. What’s even better is that the user can ask “Bard” to use the found information in other ways, such as creating a chart or generating a beautifully formatted summary on a specific topic.

Although allowing “Bard” access to a user’s personal email and documents might raise concerns about privacy, confidentiality, and data usage, Google assures that it will not use this information to train “Bard” and that people conducting review work will not have access to it.

Importantly, the app extensions are not limited to “Gmail,” “Docs,” and “Drive.” The chatbot can connect and provide real-time information using “Google Maps” “Youtube” and “Google Flights” as well. To start using this feature, users do not need to set up a separate “Bard” integration with Google services. This new feature is currently available only in English.
