AirPods 4: Apple to Launch Headphones in 2024 with Two Versions
Currently, Apple sells both the second-generation AirPods (introduced in April 2019) and the third generation (introduced in October 2021). Despite their differing appearances, these models seem to lack significant technical disparities, leading to confusion among potential buyers.

According to Gurman, Apple aims to address this issue with the new AirPods 4. These will replace both AirPods 2 and AirPods 3, offered in two distinct versions, with the current difference centered on a technical detail.
The AirPods 4 will feature a fresh design, described as a blend between the current AirPods 3 and the AirPods Pro, albeit with shorter stems. Additionally, the fit is expected to be enhanced, although it remains uncertain whether Apple will achieve this with supplementary silicone ear tips.
Furthermore, the charging case will undergo revision, equipped with speakers to be utilized when locating it through the “Find My” function. The use of a USB-C connection is confirmed, signaling the departure from Lightning, a change already implemented in the recent update of the AirPods Pro.

The mentioned second, higher-end version of the new AirPods will incorporate Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a significant feature previously exclusive to the Pro models.
Apple aims to launch the AirPods 4 sometime in 2024, possibly in September, aligning with the release of the iPhone 16.
What Else is in the Pipeline?
Likewise in 2024, there are plans for a revamp of the premium-priced AirPods Max. As per current information, the over-ear headphones are expected to undergo only subtle adjustments. Anticipated changes include new colors and a USB-C charging port, nothing more.
However, those awaiting successors to the current AirPods Pro will need to exercise patience. A major update is slated for 2025, focusing on a new design geared toward enhanced comfort and a swifter chip in the new version.
