In Diablo 4, fortresses act as key locations where players can rest and trade, serving as a reprieve from the constant battle against demons. However, players must first liberate these fortresses to use them as safe havens. The Vessel of Hatred expansion adds two such fortresses, each offering unique challenges.
“The Festering Dark” Fortress: A Challenge of Light and Shadow
According to gameplay footage shared by YouTuber Rob2628, the fortresses introduced in Vessel of Hatred are named “The Festering Dark” and “Chakhir,” both set within the Nehantu jungle:
The Festering Dark features a unique gameplay mechanic where players must navigate through complete darkness. The only source of light is a special lantern that players must use to see. However, the lantern must be put down when engaging in combat, adding a layer of complexity. Scattered throughout the fortress are Warding Braziers that need to be lit with the lantern to remove barriers obstructing your path. This mechanic requires players to frequently pick up and set down the lantern to progress through the fortress. Successfully conquering this fortress will grant players a new hub, complete with a waypoint at the fortress’s location.
On the other hand, Chakhir adheres to a more conventional fortress design but incorporates elements of poison and hazardous plant life. Players must navigate through the fortress ruins, defeat various enemies, and ultimately face two formidable bosses. Overcoming these bosses will secure the fortress for the player.
