Xiaomi has introduced HyperOS, a new interface intended to replace MIUI and be installed on many smartphones. However, it may not be as straightforward for some users, especially those who have unlocked the bootloader of their Xiaomi phones.
No HyperOS from Xiaomi for Unlocked Smartphones
Alongside the Xiaomi 14, the Chinese company officially unveiled HyperOS. Already, it is evident that the new interface offers several advantages on the Xiaomi 14. Many older models will receive the HyperOS update. However, this does not apply to users who have unlocked their bootloader. They will be entirely excluded and unable to equip their Xiaomi phones with HyperOS (Source: GSMArena).
Only Xiaomi devices with a closed bootloader will receive the update. Therefore, if you wish to have the update, you can re-lock the bootloader and install the new software when it becomes available. If you later want to unlock the bootloader again, there will be new conditions.
With MIUI, you already need to submit a request for bootloader unlocking in Xiaomi’s Windows app and wait a week for approval. With HyperOS, not only will you have to do that, but you will also need to achieve Level 5 in Xiaomi’s Community Forum. Additionally, only three devices can be unlocked per year. At least, this is how it was announced in China. How this will be regulated in Europe is still unknown. HyperOS is not yet available on any device here. This approach is justified by security concerns.
When Will HyperOS Arrive Globally
In China, Xiaomi launched HyperOS with the Xiaomi 14. This has not happened in our region yet, so the introduction of HyperOS is still some time away. Xiaomi plans to offer the new interface outside of China in the first quarter of 2024.
