Sony will soon let DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers connect to multiple devices at once. A new update arriving later in 2025 will allow users to pair their controller with up to four gadgets and switch between them instantly by pressing the PS button and one of the face buttons.

Simplifying the pairing process

Today, pairing a DualSense controller requires holding the Share and PS buttons until the light bar flashes and then navigating the device’s Bluetooth menus to reconnect. The upcoming update adds a simplified system. After the initial setup, users can assign each device to one of the four face buttons—Triangle, Circle, Cross, or Square. Pressing the PS button plus the assigned face button switches the controller to the corresponding device. Indicator lights will show which device is active: one light for Triangle, two for Circle, three for Cross, and four for Square.

Beta testing and release timeline

Sony plans to begin beta testing the feature on July 24. Registered beta participants will install the update via their PS5 console. Beta periods typically run for several weeks, so a full public release could arrive as early as late August or early September. Sony has not confirmed whether PS VR2 Sense controllers will receive the same multi‑device pairing option.

Benefits for Apple device users

DualSense controllers pair neatly with Apple hardware from iPhone to Mac and even the Vision Pro headset. With multi‑device pairing, Apple users can switch control from an iPad Pro to a Mac with a simple button press. This will improve workflows for anyone who uses the controller across gaming, creative apps, and media playback on multiple Apple products.

Enhancing the controller ecosystem

Adding native support for multiple pairings aligns DualSense with high‑end competitor controllers and modern user expectations. Other premium gamepads have featured similar multi‑device profiles, but Sony’s implementation will work directly through PlayStation system updates. This move may push other controller makers to adopt comparable methods in future products.

How to update your controller

Users will need to plug in their DualSense or DualSense Edge to a PS5 console and update their latest system software when the feature goes out. After the console goes online, downloads and installs the update, it will ask the user to attach appliances to face buttons.

Once each device is paired, the user can alternatively use devices by pressing the PS button and the selected face button. The multi-device option will come as a part of the PS5 beta next week and vows to further expand the range of uses of DualSense in home entertainment systems and productivity environments.
