Many users of Claude Code were struck with surprise on Monday afternoon that they had strict new usage limits that came into effect. Max customers (who pay $200 per month) who are heavy users report hitting the caps after a couple of requests and only ever get a “Claude usage limit reached” message with the reset time in hours. No announcement was made to explain why the change had gone into effect, leaving subscribers everywhere confused and worried that they no longer had access.

Unexpected Restriction for Heavy Users
Some developers who subscribed to the Max plan indicated that they used up the allowance after a few calls. One user wrote about submitting thirty requests in half an hour, but noticed that the maximum number of messages was capped at nine hundred messages. Others had considered the reset window to be too brief to pursue meaningful activities. Quite a number of them used the GitHub issues page to find the help that they needed, but came across what appeared to be scores of others complaining about inaccuracies with the tracking system.
Lack of Communication and User Frustration
Anthropic confirmed that some Claude Code users are experiencing slower response times and that the team is working on a resolution. Beyond that, the company offered no details on changed limits or future expectations. The silence has eroded confidence in the service. One developer said that the sudden stoppage “completely halted progress” on a time‑sensitive project and forced them to switch to less capable alternatives.
Pricing Model and Tiered Limits
Anthropic’s subscription tiers promise higher usage for paid plans but do not guarantee absolute limits. The Max plan offers twenty times more capacity than Pro, while Pro offers five times more than the free. However, the free tier itself “will vary by demand,” and no fixed value is ever provided. This flexible approach has left users unable to plan their workflows or predict when they might be blocked.

Technical Issues and Network Performance
The limitation issues of usage emerged with non-related API overload errors of Anthropic customers. The status page of the company, however, indicates a hundred percent uptime during the week. The disjunction between what is being reported to be available and the interruptions that the service has is seen as a sign by developers of a greater strain on the infrastructure.
The emergent situation of ClaudeCode captures the essentiality of such transparent polices and communication. Both users and developers rely on consistent access to construct and support their projects, and they have a right to information that would allow them to plan accordingly.
