Apple has finally released its next-generation CarPlay system, called CarPlay Ultra, starting with Aston Martin vehicles. This new system turns the car’s entire dashboard into a smart screen that works with your iPhone. Drivers can now see maps, music, and car details like speed and fuel levels all in one place.

CarPlay Ultra was first announced in 2022 and was supposed to come out by the end of 2024. The five-month delay has ended, and Aston Martin cars in both the U.S. and Canada are now set to receive the updates. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis will be receiving the update at a later time.

What CarPlay Ultra Can Do

CarPlay Ultra is designed to take over every screen in the car. Instead of just showing apps on a small display, it controls everything from the speedometer to the temperature settings. Drivers can choose to see iPhone apps next to car information, making it easier to use both at the same time.

Direction and speed information are both presented on the same screen when you are using the map. Siri, the buttons on the wheel, and pressing on the screen can all be used to adjust the radio or air conditioning.

Customization and Car Brands

Aston Martin is the first car company to use CarPlay Ultra. Owners of new Aston Martin cars can order vehicles with the system already installed. People who already own certain Aston Martin models can get a free software update at their local dealer to add CarPlay Ultra.

Apple showed a list of 14 car brands that planned to use CarPlay Ultra back in 2022. So far, only Aston Martin has released it. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are next in line, but Apple has not said exactly when their cars will get the update.

How CarPlay Ultra Works with Your iPhone

CarPlay Ultra works on iPhones 12 and later running iOS 18.5 or later. The system can be connected via a wireless connection and provides the ability to add different widgets to the screens in your vehicle. Upcoming events, what the weather is, and music playlists are among items that can be displayed on screen without switching apps.

Apple enables carmakers to shape the appearance of CarPlay Ultra. Since Aston Martin can customize the colors and patterns, the system appears as a built-in part of the car.

Why CarPlay Ultra Matters

CarPlay Ultra represents a huge progress for Apple. The company is making clear that they want to be involved in every aspect of cars, not just phones. Partnering with luxury car makers such as Aston Martin first, Apple has chosen to appeal to drivers interested in cutting-edge car technology.

There are car brands, such as General Motors, that have chosen not to include CarPlay in their electric vehicles. Instead, they are using systems made by Google. Apple hopes CarPlay Ultra will convince more companies to choose its technology by offering better iPhone integration.

What Drivers Can Expect Next

Apple expects CarPlay Ultra to be available in more countries within a year. The business is now bringing in new features so customers can select the music or adjust the climate from their seats themselves. The priority for now is to ensure everything runs smoothly in Aston Martin cars. In time, CarPlay Ultra could become a standard option in new vehicles as more brands support it. It would be simpler for iPhone users to talk on the road since they don’t have to learn a different way to use it.
