Microsoft has just released gaming solutions to help people with limited mobility enjoy games more easily. The company launched the Xbox Adaptive Joystick, a special controller that lets players customize buttons and play games with one hand. The joystick device can be purchased for $29.99 from Microsoft’s online website.

What Makes This Joystick Special

Users can modify the front buttons on the Xbox Adaptive Joystick according to their requirements. Additionally, the joystick contains button functions on both the shoulder and trigger sections facing its back. A few hand dexterity issues would create difficulties when using this joystick because users can operate it with one hand. You can use the joystick screw-hole opening to connect the device with wheelchair supports and tripods. This helps keep it steady while playing. The joystick connects to Xbox consoles, PCs, or Microsoft’s bigger Adaptive Controller using a USB cable. It does not work wirelessly.

Affordable and Easy to Customize

At $30, this joystick is cheaper than many other gaming tools for people with disabilities. Microsoft also lets people 3D print extra parts to make the joystick even easier to use. For example, you could add bigger buttons or a handle that fits your hand better.

The package features an easy opening mechanism instead of the tough plastic boxes that pose difficulties when unwrapping. Microsoft wants other companies to make better packaging, too, so they shared a guide on how to design boxes everyone can open.

Who Can Use This Joystick

The joystick serves as an outstanding gaming accessory for people with restricted hand or arm movement. The joystick suits people with arthritis because they discover difficulty engaging with small buttons. Users can modify the joystick buttons for effortless button activation through this device. People with cerebral palsy or spinal injuries can also benefit from the customizable design.

How to Set It Up

The joystick functions with Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Windows computer systems. The joystick enables use with Microsoft’s Adaptive Controller when you separately purchase it to access additional options. The connector enables users to attach pedals and switches along with other tools so they can set up their ideal gaming station.

Microsoft Cares About Accessibility

Microsoft announced the joystick at its Ability Summit, an event where the company shows off new tools for people with disabilities. The Adaptive Controller appeared as Microsoft’s 2018 product release to enable users to create controllers suited to their individual requirements. Microsoft stands out through its budget-friendly adaptive gaming accessories, which users can easily adapt to their preferences, while Sony and Logitech also manufacture similar products.

Try It Risk-Free

The joystick comes with a 30-day return guarantee through Microsoft in case users doubt its suitability. You can purchase the controller through online channels and test it at home before sending it back if it fails to fulfil your requirements. The adaptive controller represents a major advancement in making gaming accessible for every player type. Microsoft advances inclusive technology development through their practice of understanding gamers with disabilities.
