In 2021, the first AirTag came about under code B389 and blew up in terms of its effective tracking abilities. Rumors had the new version of the AirTag coming out next year, but Gurman says the next-gen AirTag 2 will arrive in 2025 with some exciting new features.

Three Key Changes in AirTag 2

The new Apple AirTag 2 is expected to borrow from the looks of the original model but comes with three major enhancements.

It will first feature a new wireless chip that provides a longer range and helps improve precision-finding capabilities. It might help you find lost things under the worst circumstances.

Second, it will also tackle the privacy issues raised in the first AirTag model. In the case of stalking, Apple has reportedly made it more difficult to disable the speaker. Apple’s focus is on user safety while attempting to prevent the misuse of the device by making it more tamper-proof.

Apple is also rumored to improve the iPhone’s Find My functionality. Features that let users share the location of a lost item with people outside Apple were added in a recent iOS 18.2 developer beta. All of this cross-platform sharing in addition to the improvements on the AirTag 2 is going to make a huge difference in the ease of use section.

Smart Home Expansion and Upcoming Apple Devices

Apart from the AirTag 2, Apple is said to be working on a smart home command center in the vein of the Google Nest Hub, Amazon Echo Hub, and so on. The AirTag 2 device could come with the launch of this device and could bring Apple into the smart home market.

Additionally, 2024 looks to be a year filled with new Apple hardware refreshes including the iPhone SE 4, updated iPad models, and updated Mac lineup including the Mac Pro and MacBook Air.

Moving another jump further, innovations in 2025 could include a wall-mounted smart home display to control smart devices without any of the independent controls.

The Future of Find My and Tracking

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new AirTag 2 is designed for its wider efforts to keep developing the Find My ecosystem. The features are improved, and the users expect ease of accessibility and improved reliability. As an example, when “Show Contact Info” was introduced in Find My, the screen that appears to recover lost items is simplified, telling the user to visit a webpage showing the owner’s details.

Apple is ready to disrupt item tracking, using advanced technology coupled with addressing user concerns, with a new benchmark for privacy and usability in the future with the AirTag 2.

The new Apple AirTag 2 will promise the Cupertino giant to change the experience of personal tracking. With improved range, safety, and integration with Find My, AirTag 2 is poised to redefine tracking. Apple’s ambitious 2025 product strategy could be setting a new standard in tech innovation alongside other hardware launches.
