Samsung is preparing a “One More Thing” for its first Unpacked event in 2025. The company may surprise everyone with an additional product that isn’t One UI 7 or the three versions of the Galaxy S25. According to leaks, this surprise could be the Samsung XR Glasses, augmented reality glasses that may rival the Ray-Ban Meta, which has been very successful in its second version.

The South Korean company seems to be starting 2025 in a way similar to 2024: by unveiling a new consumer product in prototype form. We saw this earlier this year with the Galaxy Ring, and now it seems to be the turn of the Samsung XR Glasses. Some sources suggest the company will reveal images of the final product in January, but it may not be available for purchase until later in 2025.
Although there’s not much information yet, Samsung may be aiming to offer a direct alternative to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. These would look similar to traditional glasses but include smart features for video recording, using conversational AI, and interacting with the environment—without significantly changing the shape, weight, or size of regular glasses.
Samsung’s XR Glasses Would Not Have a Screen
Unlike mixed or virtual reality glasses, augmented reality frames don’t feature screens. According to sources, Samsung XR glasses will include a 12 MP camera to capture what the wearer is looking at, a 155 mAh battery with unspecified runtime, the Qualcomm AR1 chip, and a lightweight design of about 50 grams.
In addition to the glasses, Samsung is expected to introduce the XR platform, an ecosystem designed to support app and service development for this new product. This is likely why Samsung plans to reveal a prototype in January but delay the full launch for a few months. For a product like this to succeed, it needs to offer valuable services beyond the built-in features Samsung plans to include.
What Can Be Done With Samsung XR Glasses?
It’s still too early to know all the functions these glasses will offer, but some features seen in other similar products give us a good idea of what Samsung XR Glasses could deliver. Here are a few possibilities:
- AI-Assisted Context and Navigation: With the built-in camera, the glasses can capture what you see and use AI services like Gemini to provide contextual information about a location or guide you through unfamiliar streets.
- Accessibility Features: These glasses could be a game-changer for people with reduced or no vision. AI could act as a guide, describing the surroundings in detail to help navigate safely and independently.
- Content Recording: The glasses can record video directly from the user’s perspective (POV), making it easier to capture moments hands-free.
- Integrated Audio Features: If equipped with speakers, the glasses could handle calls or play music without requiring headphones, adding convenience for users.
- Live Streaming: Similar to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the Samsung XR could allow users to broadcast live on platforms like Twitch or YouTube, eliminating the need for bulky cameras or complicated setups.
For now, we’ll have to wait for more details, as Samsung hasn’t officially revealed anything. If the leaks are accurate, the first glimpse of the Samsung XR Glasses might come during the Galaxy S25 launch event, rumored to happen on January 23.
