A few days ago, Samsung released One UI 6 Watch for all compatible Galaxy Watch models. This updated operating system introduced important functions and features that breathe new life into older smartwatches. The good news doesn’t stop there, as a new update is already available, adding a key feature to make our lives easier.

If you’ve ever struggled to log in because you forgot your password or needed another device for authorization, Google has a solution you’ll appreciate. The tech giant has launched the preview version of Wear OS 5.1, featuring a tool called Credential Manager. This feature allows you to store your passwords, PINs, or federated identities and sync them across your devices, simplifying the login process.
Credential Manager is an API that has been available since Android 14 and is now being introduced to the operating system that powers the Galaxy Watch. Wear OS 5.1, which is based on Android 15, includes some features commonly seen on mobile phones. According to the description on the developer website:
“Credential Manager is an API that supports multiple sign-in methods, including usernames and passwords, access keys, and federated access solutions (such as Sign in with Google). This API unifies the sign-in interface across all authentication methods, making it easier and cleaner for users to sign in to your apps, no matter which method they choose.”
Another major feature coming with this update is the ability to play media through the smartwatch’s speaker. Wear OS 5.1 will allow you to listen to music directly on the Galaxy Watch when you don’t have headphones available. While this feature may not be as impressive — as the sound experience of Galaxy Buds far surpasses that of the Watch’s speaker — it’s still a useful addition.

These two features are already available in the Wear OS 5.1 preview, an update that is expected to be included in One UI 6.5. Currently, the preview is only available to developers, so you’ll need to wait a few weeks for the final version to be released to the public.
