What is now called X, but many of us still refer to as Twitter, has gained a poor reputation since Elon Musk took over the platform and filled it with bots. The situation hasn’t improved much, as algorithms seem to boost the visibility of far-right accounts. Additionally, many paid accounts focus on stealing content and reposting it to gain interactions at the expense of original creators. Donald Trump’s victory in the last U.S. presidential elections seems to have been the final straw, leading many users to abandon Twitter and migrate to Bluesky.

Bluesky has experienced a significant surge in users recently. On November 15 alone, the platform reported gaining one million new users, primarily from the United States and the United Kingdom. Notable organizations like The Guardian and the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia have also joined the platform. Bluesky announced 13 million users on October 24, and by the time of writing, it has nearly 20 million users. It may have even surpassed that number by the time you read this article.
If you’re one of the millions of users who have decided to leave Twitter (now X) for Bluesky or want to use both platforms, we’re here to help. In this guide, we’ll explain how to transfer your current contacts from Twitter to Bluesky. Unfortunately, there’s no official way to do this. Unlike apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, social networks don’t allow you to easily import or export your followers and following lists. The only exception is Threads and Instagram, as they are interconnected platforms.
Here’s how you can move your contacts from X (Twitter) to Bluesky.
Where official solutions fall short, creative programmers often step in with their own tools. If you want to copy your Twitter contacts to Bluesky—the social network created in 2019 by Jack Dorsey, the same person who founded Twitter—you can use browser extensions to help. Once the transfer is complete, you’ll be able to see your added contacts through the Bluesky app. You can access Bluesky via its official website or its apps for Android and iPhone, which can also be installed on iPads and Macs.
One of the most popular tools for transferring contacts between Twitter and Bluesky is the Sky Follower Bridge. This free extension is available on its official website and works with web browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. If you use Chrome-based browsers such as Brave, Opera, or Vivaldi, the Chrome extension will work for you too. The process is straightforward, making it easy to move your contacts.
- Install the Extension: Add the Sky Follower Bridge extension to your web browser.
- Open the Twitter Page: Go to your Twitter profile and open the page with the users you follow.
- It also works for blocked accounts and member lists.
- For lists, use this link: x.com/i/lists/<list_id>/members, replacing <list_id> with the list number.
- Launch the Extension: Click on the extension icon to run it.
- Log in to Bluesky: The extension will prompt you to log in with your Bluesky account.
- Click ‘Find Bluesky Users’: The extension will begin searching for your Twitter contacts in Bluesky.
- View Detected Users: Once the search is finished, you’ll see a button labeled View Detected Users.
- Review the List: Go through the list and ensure the Twitter and Bluesky contacts match.
- Follow on Bluesky: Click the Follow on Bluesky button for each contact that matches.
- You can use the Follow All button, but be careful as it may add some contacts by mistake.
That’s it! Now you’ve successfully moved your Twitter contacts to Bluesky. Now that you have most, if not all, of your Twitter contacts on Bluesky, your main feed will be filled with their comments and posts. Enjoy exploring this social network! If you can’t find some contacts, you can always do a manual search for those you’re not following. However, this extension will save you a lot of time, especially if you have a long list of contacts. From there, dive deeper into Bluesky, discover new accounts, and check out the Feeds tab, where you’ll find interesting channels on various topics or collections of users who post in specific languages.
