iOS 18.2 public beta has arrived with more Apple Intelligence features that promise to take iPhone usage to a higher level with AI-powered tools. The public beta also gives you a sneak peek if you are keen to get your hands on it sooner. Apple’s last release date has yet to be determined but industry watchers, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, predict that iOS 18.2 will come out around early December, keeping Apple iOS users up in arms anticipating the new upgrade.

Who Can Access the Apple Intelligence Update?

Apple Intelligence will only work on devices with advanced processors, including the A17 Pro chip in recent iPhone models, and M1 in some iPads and Macs. Here is a list of devices eligible for these intelligence features:

  • iPhone Models: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models
  • iPad Models: Late 2024 iPad Mini, iPad Air (M1+), iPad Pro (M1+), iPad (M1+)
  • Mac: All Macs with Apple Silicon (M-series)

The update will still bring iOS 18.2 to devices not on this list, but it will not include Apple Intelligence features. Only other standard features will be available, including a new, redesigned control center, home screen customizations, and satellite messaging.

What’s New in iOS 18.2?

iOS 18.2 public beta comes packed with intriguing Apple Intelligence features:

  • Genmoji: In Apple’s Image Playground, create personalized emojis.
  • Visual Intelligence: The camera Control button is used to access the visual insights of objects and surroundings.
  • Writing Tools: New editing and proofreading tools for the iPhone that are just the tools you need to edit and proofread directly on your iPhone.

This comes after Apple announced its own major iOS 18 updates, including a new photo album with a plethora of new improvements, satellite messaging capabilities, a new dedicated passwords app, and RCS messaging support.

Supported iOS 18.2 Devices

The following iPhone models support iOS 18.2, even if they may not access all Apple Intelligence tools:

  • iPhone SE (2nd gen+), XR, XS, and XS Max
  • iPhone 11 and 11 Pro series
  • iPhone 12 series and Pro models
  • iPhone 13 series and Pro models
  • iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro series
  • iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series

Other iOS 18.2 improvements are available if your device is not fully compatible with Apple Intelligence.

Is the Public Beta Stable?

Developer betas are less stable than public betas but are not without their risks. There are bugs and minor issues. If the iOS 18.2 beta is not for you then do not use it: a dedicated backup device if you value your phone’s functionality. Always back up your device before installing by going to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Backup > Back Up Now.

Using these steps you will have access to see the next step in Apple innovation and the possible next step in the potential of Apple Intelligence. From Genmoji creation to interactive visual intelligence to topped-up writing tools, iOS 18.2 can mark the beginning of the Apple user experience for something truly transformative.
