The public betas of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2, which introduce new Apple Intelligence features and ChatGPT integration, are now available for all supported devices. This release comes just a couple of weeks after the developer-only versions were launched.

This means that if you want to start testing Apple’s AI features before the final versions are released, you can now do so. Simply enroll in the Apple Beta Software program and download the update to your supported devices. Keep in mind that, since this is a beta, there may be bugs or stability issues.
With their first public betas, iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 introduce the latest Apple Intelligence tools. Meanwhile, Siri now features the redesign from iOS 18.1, along with the long-awaited integration of ChatGPT.
An interesting detail is that using ChatGPT through Siri doesn’t require an account, though you can link one if you prefer. Apple also offers the option to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus directly from the settings screen in iOS 18.2 and other supported operating systems.
What’s New in Apple Intelligence in the iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 Public Beta
Beyond ChatGPT, here are the top new features in Apple Intelligence debuting in the iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 public betas:
Image Playground: This AI-powered image generator allows users to create images based on text descriptions. It works independently, but is also integrated into other Apple apps like Freeform, Notes, and Messages.
Genmoji: As the name suggests, this feature uses AI to create emojis from text prompts. Currently, it’s only available in iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, with macOS support expected later.
Visual Intelligence: This tool is exclusive to the iPhone 16 and lets you use the camera to identify objects, animals, locations, text, and more. It functions similarly to Google Lens.
Image Wand: Available only in iPadOS 18.2, this feature allows you to use the Apple Pencil to draw on an image and have the object seamlessly integrated using AI. It also works with text descriptions.
Writing Tools: First introduced in previous versions of Apple’s operating systems, iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 bring additional options to create and edit text with AI.
Similar to the developer release, the iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 public beta introduces a new waitlist for Apple Intelligence features. If you pre-registered, you’ll get immediate access to Visual Intelligence, ChatGPT integration, and the new writing tools. However, to try features like Image Playground, Image Wand, and Genmoji, you’ll need to sign up and wait for Apple to grant you access.
Availability and Compatible Devices
To use Apple Intelligence features in the iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2 betas, you’ll need to set Siri and your device language to English (US, UK, Canada, South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand).
In European markets, Apple Intelligence can currently only be accessed through the Mac. Apple has confirmed that the AI tools will be available on the iPhone and iPad in the European Union, starting in April 2025, with the release of iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4.
As mentioned earlier, those interested in testing the development version of iOS 18.2 and other Apple operating systems must register for the beta program and follow the provided instructions.
The software is now available to install on all compatible iPhones, but Apple Intelligence features are only accessible on the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and the four iPhone 16 models. The iPadOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 betas are available to install on iPads and Macs with Apple Silicon, respectively.
