Apple has been significantly reducing production of the Vision Pro since this summer, and the company may stop it entirely by the end of this year, according to The Information. This report cites people directly involved in manufacturing components for the augmented reality headset.

The source indicates that Apple has cut production because it believes it has enough units in stock to meet current demand until at least next year. Some component distributors claim to have produced parts for between 500,000 and 600,000 Vision Pro models. Others even stopped making components last May due to low sales forecasts.
Luxshare, one of the main assemblers of the Vision Pro, has reportedly limited production to 1,000 units per day. According to The Information, this is half of the initial production rate, and they could stop manufacturing the devices as early as this November.
However, it’s important to note that Apple only plans to suspend production, not completely dismantle the supply chain. This approach would allow the company to increase production if demand rises for any reason.
The Vision Pro has not achieved the expected success.
Apple’s decision to significantly reduce production, or even stop it entirely by the end of the year, makes sense given the low demand for the Vision Pro. Its high price ($3,500), limited software compatibility (with few available apps), and heavy, uncomfortable design mean that the device appeals mainly to hobbyists or those very curious about it.
Additionally, Apple has no plans for a second generation of the Vision Pro. The company has reportedly canceled—or at least paused—its development to focus on a more affordable mixed reality headset. This new model may have a simpler design and fewer sensors or components to lower the price.
However, the Cupertino firm does not expect the cheaper Vision Pro to revive interest in the product. According to the same media outlet, Apple has asked its suppliers to prepare to produce around four million units of the more affordable model. This is half of what the company originally ordered for the Vision Pro.
