Even though we still have several months before the iPhone SE 4 is revealed, we’ve already discussed it in detail. Apple’s budget model is set to be renewed in mid-2025, and today we learned it will come with a highly anticipated feature. If you’re looking forward to this launch, you can now add another advantage to the list. However, as mentioned in the title, this new feature may still feel insufficient to you.

The big surprise of the iPhone SE 4, as expected, is the long-awaited OLED panel. According to Hankooki Daily, Apple plans to work with Samsung as one of the screen suppliers for this device. It won’t be the only supplier, though; BOE and LG Display, two well-known manufacturers, will also be involved.
It’s unclear how many iPhone SE 4 models will have Samsung-supplied OLED displays, but the source mentioned that a large portion of the panels will come from BOE Display. It’s rare for Apple to use three different suppliers for a single model, which suggests that the company expects strong sales for its next “cheap iPhone.”
iPhone SE 4: The First Model With an OLED Screen
The good news is not just that Samsung is joining the supply team, but that the iPhone SE 4 will feature an OLED screen for the first time instead of an LCD. This has been one of the most common complaints from users and fans, so Apple couldn’t continue using the older technology in 2025.
OLED panels offer much better contrast, more vibrant colors, and deeper blacks. While they aren’t necessarily better overall, this technology is often rated higher than LCD in the same price range.
Looking at the manufacturers providing the screens, there isn’t a significant difference in quality. However, Apple has hinted at its preferences. For example, LG Display has supplied screens for the more advanced models, while BOE is usually chosen for the base versions of the iPhone.
Thus, BOE will be the preferred supplier for the iPhone SE 4. Samsung offers quality similar to LG but at higher wholesale prices. Over time, Apple has reduced orders from the South Korean company, but in 2025, it seems they want to renew their partnership and invest in one of the year’s most interesting devices.
OLED Yes, But With 60 Hz
These are just speculations for now, but it seems that Apple will use a 60Hz display in the iPhone SE 4. They have done the same in the current iPhone 16, so there’s no reason to think it will be different in a more affordable—though still not cheap—device.
The Cupertino company will again sell a phone priced at €500, €600, or €700 without a 120Hz screen. This decision is something buyers will have to consider, as it represents a notable drawback in 2024 or 2025. In the Android market, there are €200 phones with this refresh rate, while Apple reserves it for models priced at €1,219 or more.
