Samsung TVs that use Tizen as their operating system have started receiving updates to One UI. This move aims to unify the software experience across these devices and other products, such as mobile phones and tablets, that use the same customization layer.

The launch of One UI on Samsung Smart TVs comes with an update to Tizen version 8.0. According to SamMobile, the first TVs to be updated are those released by the manufacturer in 2023, so the entire range of compatible equipment will likely complete the transition in the coming weeks.

What’s interesting is that Samsung announced it would bring One UI to its TVs during its developer conference earlier this month, so it’s surprising that the first updates have rolled out so quickly. It’s clear that the company aims to provide a more consistent experience for users with multiple products in its ecosystem.

The update to One UI is reportedly being released for Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen 7.0. If your TV doesn’t support this version, it likely won’t receive the aesthetic changes and improvements that come with the new software layer. We’ll see if the company confirms this or expands availability to older versions of the operating system in the future.

The changes that One UI brings to Samsung TVs with Tizen

The first major new feature that One UI brings to Samsung TVs with Tizen 8.0 is a refresh of the graphical interface. The software design now resembles that of the brand’s Galaxy phones and tablets, giving it a much more modern look. Additionally, new tabs have been added to the main screen to make it easier to navigate between applications, personalized recommendations, and more.

Samsung has also taken the opportunity to introduce the “Watch Later” option on the details screens for movies and series. The search engine has been improved to provide recommendations based on previous searches and related content.

The Game Bar, which displays relevant information when launching a game, has also been updated with a new interface. It can be accessed by holding down the play/pause button on the TV remote, as long as Game Mode is on or set to automatic.

Samsung TVs that update to One UI will have more integration options with connected devices via SmartThings, as well as new workout tracking features when using a Galaxy Watch. This feature is part of the Samsung Daily+ service announced earlier this year.

The One UI update on compatible Samsung TVs can be applied immediately or scheduled to take place when the device is turned off. Samsung warns that the upgrade to Tizen 8.0 may cause some apps to become incompatible. Additionally, Smart TVs that install this software will not be able to revert to the previous version.
