Samsung’s new smart ring faces serious competition from brands like Oura and Amazfit. However, one company that competes with Samsung in smartphones, smartwatches, headsets, and computers will not join the race. That company is Apple. According to Bloomberg, Apple has no plans to launch a smart ring, although it did consider the idea.

The same media outlet reports that Apple is not currently developing any health device similar to a smart ring. However, the company looked into the possibility of creating such a product as a cheaper alternative to the Apple Watch. The idea did not convince Apple executives, so they ultimately decided to drop the project.
In fact, Electronic Times revealed that Apple was moving quickly to develop a smart ring capable of tracking various measurements, which aligns with the company’s focus on health. However, this could just be a rumor linked to the upcoming launch of the Galaxy Ring, as it would make sense for Apple to compete in this product category as well.
Better Than a Smart Ring? Apple Focuses on Other Health Devices.
Apple, meanwhile, is focused on adding health features to its existing devices. This is shown by the new capabilities coming to the AirPods, which now allow users to take hearing measurements and even use the earphones as an over-the-counter hearing aid. The company also includes many health-related features in the Apple Watch, such as an electrocardiogram and a blood oxygen sensor—though the latter is not active in the United States.
A smart ring, however, can offer more health measurement options than any other device since users can wear it almost all the time, even while sleeping.
For example, the Galaxy Ring can continuously measure heart rate, sleep status, and body temperature, with a battery that lasts up to seven days. However, it does have one downside: its price. Samsung’s smart ring is sold for 450 euros, which is quite expensive.
