WhatsApp video calls have introduced new features to make them more fun and personalized. The messaging app has launched a variety of filters and backgrounds that can be used for both individual and group calls.

This WhatsApp option is quite similar to features already available on other video calling platforms like Zoom or Google Meet. The most useful feature is likely the ability to change the background, which comes with several options to give your environment a fresh look.
While the backgrounds and filters for WhatsApp video calls may seem mostly cosmetic at first, they can also provide more privacy. For example, if you don’t want other participants to see your home or office, or if you’re in a public space and want to reduce distractions, you can change the background to one of the options offered by the app.
In total, there are 11 new backgrounds and 10 filters now available for WhatsApp video calls. The new backgrounds include:

- Living Room
- Office
- Beach
- Forest
- Blur
- Celebration
- Sunset
- Smoothness
- Shingle
- Food Lover
- Focusing on backgrounds, the available options are: Black and White, Warm, Cool, Dreamy, Light Leak, Fisheye, Retro TV, Duo Tone, Prism Light, and Frosted Glass. New low-light and retouch effects are also available.
How to Use the New Effects for WhatsApp Video Calls
Using the new backgrounds and filters for WhatsApp video calls is very simple. When starting a group or individual call, users just need to tap the effects button to see the available options. These will be organized into two sections and can be tested or changed during the call.
As is typical with updates like this, the rollout is happening gradually. This means that users will receive these options over the next few weeks until they are fully available to everyone using the Meta messaging app.
This new feature for video calls joins several other changes that WhatsApp has been making for some time. The platform is focusing on integrating more social functions and offering deeper customization options.
