Google has rolled out its new AI assistant, Gemini, to models of older Pixel Buds, letting users enjoy advanced features without having to upgrade their earbuds. According to a previous reports, emails have confirmed the update to current Pixel Buds owners, detailing the movement from Google Assistant to Gemini.

The new update has improved the function of the “Hey Google” command significantly. Though Gemini is not yet for sale globally, those in supported countries can currently gain from this enhanced version. As long as it is not available in your vicinity, Google Assistant will linger on your earbuds until the new AI assistant is up and running.
Replacing Google Assistant
Gemini is gradually changing out Google Assistant on various Google devices and applications. The most current case is the Pixel 9 phone family, which makes Gemini the default AI helper. The processing done for Gemini is heavy, taking place on your Android phone, which means you need just to change the direction of the earbuds to the new assistant without the need for extra hardware upgrades.
This change comes alongside another key modification. Google has cut out the feature that enabled Google Assistant to announce notifications on earlier Pixel Buds. Now, the functionality we had with Gemini is back again. Users can say, “Hey Google, read my notifications,” to have alerts delivered to them via their earbuds.
A Global Rollout Coming Soon
Though Gemini has not yet served all areas, Google is currently working to improve its availability. Gemini’s live regions will have users find the assistant covering most Google Assistant operations, which improves the whole experience through smarter and more responsive interactions. To access complete information about the deployment, Google has updated its support page for Gemini on the Pixel Buds, offering a step-by-step guide for turning on the new features.
