Bethesda’s “Starfield” offers an expansive space adventure, blending its traditional gameplay formula with a hard sci-fi twist. As with previous Bethesda titles, the game features an array of side missions and quests that immerse players into its world. One of the standout challenges in “Starfield” is the Run the Red Mile, an event that could set a new standard for rewards in future Bethesda games.

Despite a mixed initial reception, Bethesda has worked to improve the game with updates. The first in-game vehicle, the REV-8, and the upcoming DLC Shattered Space promise an even brighter future for Starfield. Looking at how Run the Red Mile encourages player interaction, Bethesda might find inspiration for enhancing side quests in their future titles.

The Impact of Run the Red Mile on Rewards

Run the Red Mile rewards persistence with a valuable prize that feels truly earned. The mission takes place at the Red Mile casino, where players must outlast Donovan Rhys, a local celebrity who holds the record with 28 successful runs. The path is filled with Red Mile Maulers, creating a daunting challenge. However, players who exceed the 28-run record are handsomely rewarded with the Desperation rifle, a rare and powerful variant of the AA-99.

Unlike random encounters with rare weapons, the satisfaction of earning the Desperation rifle lies in the effort required. The weapon comes equipped with six attachments and a unique Cornered effect that increases damage when the player’s health is low. Bethesda would benefit from creating more side missions in future games that offer similar rewards to those who are willing to persist through challenges. While not every player will enjoy repeating a mission, the reward system in Run the Red Mile adds depth for those who love a challenge.

Rewarding Persistence Could Shape Bethesda’s Future

Games like “Starfield” could influence how future Bethesda titles handle side quests. As Game Rant highlighted, while some players might tire of repetitive challenges, others enjoy the satisfaction of working toward a meaningful reward. The approach seen in Run the Red Mile adds weight to side missions, offering players a rare weapon as a well-earned prize.

Bethesda games are known for their vast open worlds, but challenges, like Run the Red Mile, prove that rewarding persistence can be key to creating memorable player experiences. This approach could redefine how side missions are designed in future titles, encouraging more players to engage deeply with the game.

Starfield’s Future Looks Bright

Although Starfield had a rocky launch, the game’s updates are transforming it into a much more polished experience. The REV-8 vehicle has improved the traversal system, and with the upcoming Shattered Space DLC, players are anticipating a major upgrade. The DLC promises a horror-themed chapter that will introduce new side quests and possibly more unique weapons and items. As Bethesda looks ahead to its next projects, Run the Red Mile stands out as one of the base game’s highlights. It will be interesting to see whether this type of rewarding system finds its way into the Shattered Space DLC or future titles.
