The PS5 Pro is now official and promises a significant boost in power compared to the standard versions, though it will be quite a bit more expensive. Sony’s new console features an upgraded GPU that can render games up to 45% faster. It also introduces improvements in ray tracing and a new AI-powered upscaling technology called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

The PS5 Pro will support 8K resolutions, variable refresh rate (VRR), WiFi 7, and 2TB of SSD storage. Initially, the console will be available without a disc drive or vertical stand, so users will need to purchase these accessories separately.

The PS5 Pro will be sold in Europe for €799.99, with an additional €119.99 for the disc drive and €29.99 for the vertical stand. Pre-orders start on September 26, and the device will be available from November 7, just in time for the holiday season.

Sony hasn’t announced any new games specifically designed for the PS5 Pro yet. However, it has confirmed that many PlayStation Studios and third-party titles will be optimized to fully utilize the PS5 Pro’s capabilities. These enhancements will be available as free update patches, and future games that make full use of the system’s features will be labeled as PS5 Pro Enhanced.

In terms of compatibility, the PS5 Pro will be able to run games already available on the standard PlayStation 5, as well as PS4 titles that were playable on the original PS5. Additionally, there will be some extra optimizations:

PS5 Pro Game Boost: This feature is designed to stabilize or improve the performance of PS4 and PS5 games. It can be applied to over 8,500 PlayStation 4 games that are backward compatible with the new console.

Enhanced Image Quality: This feature will improve the resolution of certain PS4 games. However, the specific games that will benefit from this enhancement have not yet been announced.

Several games will soon be optimized to take full advantage of the PS5 Pro. As mentioned earlier, titles that were previously available on the PlayStation 5 and receive these improvements will be updated for free. The following games have already been confirmed:

  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Alan Wake 2
  • Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2
  • The First Descendant
  • The Crew Motorfest

These are just a few examples, and we can expect more announcements between now and November when the console starts reaching buyers. At this time, Sony has not confirmed which game will be optimized from day one for the PS5 Pro. There are rumors of a State of Play event taking place this month, where more announcements could be made. Additionally, with the Tokyo Game Show happening on September 26, the same day pre-orders for the PS5 Pro go live, we might also hear new updates during that event.
