What was once just a rumor is now a reality: the PS5 Pro is official and will arrive in the coming months. Sony’s new console follows its mid-generation strategy with a power upgrade and a new design, while keeping many features of the standard PlayStation 5 (including the recently released Slim model) intact.

The PS5 Pro comes in two versions, digital only and disc-based, similar to its predecessor. Like the basic model, you can also purchase the disc drive separately for the digital version. With enhanced GPU performance and exclusive features, the PS5 Pro stands out as the best console available today and offers a serious option for demanding gamers looking for a top-tier desktop console.

Sony has incorporated several exciting features from its recent accessories into the new PS5 Pro. Alongside its gaming-focused specs, it has also upgraded connectivity and multimedia features. With these changes—minor in some areas and significant in others—the PS5 Pro stands out as the best console available today. However, like with the previous generation, it remains to be seen which developers beyond Sony’s own studios will fully utilize this additional power.

More Powerful Than the PS5, Much More Expensive

Improved GPU: The PS5 Pro features an upgraded GPU with 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory compared to the current PS5. This upgrade enables up to 45% faster game rendering for a smoother experience.

Advanced Ray Tracing: The PS5 Pro includes enhanced ray tracing, offering more dynamic light reflection and refraction for improved visual detail.

AI-Powered Upscaling: The console uses PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-powered upscaling technology that leverages machine learning to deliver exceptionally sharp picture clarity.

The PS5 Pro boasts 67% more graphics power, leading to higher quality graphics and enhanced ray tracing. It also features PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI-driven system that improves image quality at the pixel level. This new technology allows for better game and image quality by doubling the frame rate in graphics fidelity modes. For example, Sony has confirmed that games like The Last of Us can now maintain or exceed their graphics quality mode while preserving the frame rate of their performance mode.

The PS5 Pro introduces a new feature called Pro Game Boost, designed to stabilize and enhance the performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games. While details are limited, it appears that this feature will automatically improve the performance of many older titles without requiring any updates from developers.

Beyond improvements for Sony’s own games, the increased GPU power also benefits third-party games and their graphics engines. This additional power allows for higher frame rates while maintaining excellent graphical quality.

PS5 Pro: Prices and Availability

The PS5 Pro will be available on November 7 for €799, without a disc drive. The disc drive can be purchased separately for approximately €119.
