Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 users claim that the paint on their foldable phones is constantly “peeling.” After receiving several complaints on social media, Samsung issued a statement. They published a blog attributing the damage to the use of third-party or counterfeit chargers.

Samsung says that using a high-power charger that is not properly grounded can cause leakage current. This leakage can affect the anodizing, which is the coating that makes the metal surface decorative and corrosion-resistant. As a result, it can slightly damage the paint.
The manufacturer also highlights that using electrical stimulation (EMS) massagers with the smartphone can lead to paint issues. Current leakage from these massagers can affect the anodizing of the Galaxy’s frame.
To prevent this problem, the publication advises users to always use an official Samsung charger. Notably, the box for many of the brand’s high-end and mid-range phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, does not include this charger. Alternatively, users should use an accessory made by a reputable brand and properly certified.
The company’s blog emphasizes that its accessories and devices “undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are safe and function properly.”
If a third-party charger comes from a reputable company, is of high quality, and follows the Qi standard, using it with your device shouldn’t be a problem. However, there are counterfeit third-party chargers on the market that don’t meet these requirements and can corrode the metal on your device.
Interestingly, the paint issue seems to affect only Galaxy Z Fold 6 users. There are no reports of it impacting other Samsung devices.
