Since its September 2023 release, Starfield has faced mixed reviews and a drop in players. Despite high expectations before launch, interest has waned. Bethesda continues to update the game, but new content often highlights existing issues.

Games in 2023 seem to frequently add free content post-launch. Larian Studios updates Baldur’s Gate 3 regularly, but Starfield had issues at launch. Missing features and bugs hurt its initial appeal.
Starfield’s New Vehicle Update Reveals Another Mistake
The REV-8 Update Proves It Should Have Been in the Game from the Start
Starfield players can customize and capture ships, but planets can be large and empty. To improve ground travel, Bethesda added the REV-8 dune buggy. It has jet boosters, turrets, and hydraulics for better movement.
The REV-8 makes land travel less boring but doesn’t fully solve the problem. It should have been part of the game from the start. Adding it almost a year later reflects poorly on the game’s initial completeness.
A Better Starfield at Launch Might Have Kept Players Longer
Fallout and Skyrim Are Beating Starfield on Steam
If Starfield had launched with features like the REV-8, it might have been a major success for Bethesda. Instead, older titles like Skyrim and Fallout 4 still perform better on Steam.
Starfield feels like a missed opportunity. Adding content like the REV-8 so late shows the game was incomplete at launch. While the new vehicle is useful, it might not be enough to bring back players.
