Pixel smartphones have had poor cellular connections in the past, but the Pixel 9 series might change that. The Pixel 9 series uses the Exynos 5400 modem, unlike the older models that used the Exynos 5300. This change could solve the connection issues that many users reported before.

Users of older Pixel models often complained about weak connections or dropped calls. Golem.de also noticed these problems, like delays in connecting to mobile networks. The Exynos 5400 modem, made by Samsung, is also used in the Galaxy S24 series in Europe. Samsung claims it offers faster speeds and can support satellite communication.

The New Modem Should Work More Efficiently

The new modem should be more efficient than the Exynos 5300, but we’ll have to see if it really improves reception. Still, the new modem gives hope for better performance.

Google released the Pixel 9 series earlier than usual on August 13, 2024. The series includes the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. For the first time, the Pro model with a triple camera is the same size as the standard model with a dual camera.

The new models use Google’s Tensor G4 SoC, likely made by Samsung, which explains the Exynos modem. You can pre-order the new Pixel 9 smartphones, and Google says they will start shipping in the second week of September.
