The latest edition of the Ray-Ban Meta was released in September and continues to receive new features. However, Meta is now considering acquiring a stake in EssilorLuxottica (Ray-Ban’s parent company and the world’s largest eyewear manufacturer) to become a partner and introduce new models of smart glasses.

This information was confirmed by the company’s CEO, Francesco Milleri, during a call with Luxottica group analysts last Thursday (25). Milleri stated:
“We are proud that a company that knows us very well, after years of partnership, is convinced that our company can grow and do much better in the future.”
According to the Financial Times, Meta is contemplating acquiring up to 5% of EssilorLuxottica’s shares to become a minority partner. The eyewear maker did not specify the exact share size that could be acquired by the Facebook owner.
On the other hand, the stock market appears to be optimistic about the acquisition. EssilorLuxottica shares increased by 8.1% in value in Paris following the CEO’s announcement.
Meta may be interested in acquiring a stake in Ray-Ban to integrate new features into future generations of its smart glasses. For example, they might include screens integrated into the lenses for augmented reality features. This would make the glasses more attractive to users seeking a visual experience, as the current Ray-Ban Meta only interacts through sounds and the Meta mobile app, which limits functionality without a smartphone.
