Starfield has had a rocky journey since its release, facing significant scrutiny. Despite the huge anticipation for the game, Bethesda’s title seems to have fallen short of expectations. In particular, the end-game content has faced considerable criticism for offering too little to do.

Once players reach a certain level, much of the game becomes automated, leaving players with little to do beyond collecting resources. The end-game experience lacks clear direction, making it crucial for the upcoming Shattered Space DLC to effectively enhance and optimize this aspect of the game.
Shattered Space DLC Must Make the Endgame More Engaging
Even though Starfield features over 1,000 planets across more than 100-star systems, the exploration aspect can become tedious over time. As a result, the end game mainly involves farming resources and setting up automated systems to handle tasks for you.
Setting up Starfield Outposts can be both tedious and challenging. However, once the setup is complete, players can rely on AFK farming to gather resources. While this may seem ideal in theory, it contributes to making the end game feel one-dimensional.
A player shared their confusion about the end-game content in Starfield on Reddit. User u/lepobz noted that, apart from hoarding resources after setting up various systems, there isn’t much to do. Additionally, since these systems are mostly automatic and do not require supervision, there is little opportunity for skill-based gameplay.
It is clear that the upcoming DLC needs to address this issue. Providing players with a more defined objective in the end game is crucial for prolonging the game’s appeal, as players often become stagnant after reaching a certain point.
Can Mods Rescue Another Game from Failure?
Despite the numerous issues in Starfield, the recent addition of the creation kit has revitalized the game. Mods play a crucial role in many popular titles, and they could potentially improve Starfield’s narrative, which has been declining since its release.
One notable mod allows players to experience the Star Wars universe within Starfield. Additionally, the “Useful Brigs” mod enables players to capture and sell NPCs to various factions.
It’s important to mention that Bethesda has been contemplating the addition of paid mods to the game. This decision has not been well received by fans. Given that paid mods were unsuccessful with Skyrim in 2015, it is puzzling why Bethesda would consider trying this approach again.
