MediaTek is developing a chipset designed for mid-range and premium smartphones. This news was revealed by the leaker Digital Chat Station in a post on the social network Weibo.

According to the Gizmochina, the chipset will be named Dimensity 8400 and will directly compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in this segment.

Additionally, DCS reported that in a recent test on AnTuTu, the Dimensity 8400 achieved between 1.7 and 1.8 million points. This puts it on the same level as, or even surpassing, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which achieved around 1.7 million points.

MediaTek Dimensity 8400: Affordable Price and Expected Feature

Another highlight of the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 is its price, which will be lower than that of the Snapdragon, making it suitable for smartphones costing up to 1,500 yuan ($200).

As a result, manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Redmi, vivo, OPPO, OnePlus, realme, and Honor will be able to offer more affordable smartphones with superior performance compared to those equipped with Qualcomm SoCs, significantly increasing competition among companies.

Currently, the full technical specifications of the Dimensity 8400 have not been revealed. However, phones with this chip are expected to feature OLED screens with up to 144 Hz refresh rates and 1.5K resolution, options with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, and batteries around 5,500 mAh with charging speeds up to 100W.

The Dimensity 8400 is also anticipated to support AI-based features, but we will need to wait for an official statement from MediaTek to confirm this information.
