In addition to Google’s popular apps like Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps, the company from Mountain View also has many other applications that, while not widely known, still have a significant user base. One of these apps, Google Podcasts, is now closing down six years after its launch.

According to The Sun, the app, which allows users to listen to popular audio programs, is shutting down globally on June 24. This means that current users will no longer have access to it. In the United States, the app stopped functioning in April of this year, just a month after Google officially announced its plan to discontinue the platform. The company also stated that the app will cease to operate globally by 2024.

The reason behind Google Podcasts’ closure is clear: Google aims to enhance its streaming music service, YouTube Music, which also includes the ability to play audio programs. This move is aimed at consolidating everything onto a single platform, which will also benefit users by eliminating the need to use two separate applications on their smartphones.

How to Migrate Podcasts from Google Podcast to YouTube Music

Luckily, Google has introduced a tool that lets Google Podcast users transfer their history and saved shows from their library to YouTube Music. To do this, you simply need to follow a few steps:

  • Open the Google Podcast app on your mobile device and tap on ‘Export subscription’.
  • In the ‘Export to YouTube Music’ section, tap ‘Export’.
  • Confirm your Google account to ensure all data is transferred to YouTube Music, then tap ‘Continue’.
  • When you log into YouTube Music, your data should now be visible within the app.

Alternatively, if you prefer, you can use a specific platform or application for podcasts, such as iVoox.
