While Apple has developed smaller AI models internally, it intends to work with partners for more complex tasks. At Apple’s recent Worldwide Developers Conference, OpenAI’s ChatGPT was announced as a partner. However, this doesn’t have to be an exclusive partnership.
According to the report, Apple’s discussions are not limited to Meta. Apple is also talking with Google, Anthropic, and Perplexity to integrate their AI technology into Apple Intelligence. If these partnerships succeed, Apple has indicated that users will be able to select the external AI models they want to use alongside Apple’s internal systems.
Impact On the Tech Industry
The potential collaboration between Apple and Meta highlights the changing dynamics in the industry. Historically, these two companies have had different views, especially on privacy and advertising. Their willingness to explore an AI partnership shows the strategic importance of AI in today’s technology Landscape.
Will AI Subscriptions Also Be Available in Apple Intelligence?
According to the sources, the financial arrangements being discussed do not involve direct payments between the companies. Instead, AI providers could sell premium subscriptions through Apple Intelligence, with Apple taking a percentage of the subscription revenue, similar to its App Store model.
Industry analysts believe that such partnerships could significantly expand the reach of AI companies. Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management estimates that 10 to 20 percent of Apple users could opt for premium AI subscriptions.
