It seemed like it would never happen, but Nintendo is finally making it a reality. The Japanese company has just announced The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, its next title for the Nintendo Switch. The exciting new feature is the ability to play as Princess Zelda.

In a major change, Nintendo has decided to move Link out of the spotlight and focus entirely on Princess Zelda. The game’s announcement trailer explains that Zelda must save Hyrule after much of the population, including Link, disappeared due to fissures appearing in the land.
To complete her mission, Princess Zelda will have her own “weapon.” Unlike Link, she won’t wield a sword. In The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the main character meets Tri, a mysterious fairy who gives her a magical staff called the Trirod.
With the Trirod, Zelda can create copies of any object, known as Echoes, and replicate them as many times as needed. For example, she can create tables, beds, blocks of wood, or water to navigate scenes and overcome obstacles. She can also create Monster Echoes to use as battle companions.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Coming in September
Eiji Aonuma, producer of the Zelda series, explained that the Echoes help harness Princess Zelda’s wisdom. He also assured that the decisions players make while solving puzzles and fighting enemies will impact the development of Echoes of Wisdom, offering a unique experience for each player.

This new approach aims to bring a fresh perspective to The Legend of Zelda. While Link is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in video games, fans have long wanted Princess Zelda to have a more active role in Hyrule’s adventures. “After several decades, a Zelda game where you play as Zelda,” and similar comments flooded social media after the announcement.
Of course, those who want to try this new game will have to wait a few months. As announced in the Nintendo Direct this Tuesday, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will arrive on the Nintendo Switch on September 26. On the same day, a special version of the Nintendo Switch Lite inspired by the Zelda franchise, called the Hyrule Edition, will be launched.

Other titles such as Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Stray, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, and LEGO Horizon Adventures, among others, were also announced.
