In Addition to the US, TikTok May Also Be Banned in Europe

The last few weeks have not been easy for TikTok, the famous Chinese video platform, because in addition to the battle they are losing in the USA and which could lead to its ban in the country, the company could also be banned from Europe after a new investigation opened against the company due to the possibility of addicting young people through rewards.

This possibility arises after new comments made by the president of the European Commission. Last week, United States President Joe Biden signed into law a bill that gives ByteDance nine months to find a buyer for the platform on American soil or the app will be banned in the country.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, says that banning the platform in Europe has not been “ruled out”. After a debate that took place in Maastricht, a city in the Netherlands, last night (04/29), the Minister highlighted that her Commission was the “first global institution to ban TikTok on corporate devices”.

Currently, TikTok has been undergoing an investigation carried out by the European Union to investigate possible violations of its laws and also into paying people to watch videos, as a way of encouraging more users to spend time on the platform. Including becoming harmful to minors.

Although the company claims that accounts created by minors do not have access to rewards benefits, the European Union disputes this and says that there is nothing to prevent a child from changing this. In a recent statement about the USA, ByteDance prefers to ban the application rather than sell it.
