Sony usually sticks to a strict rule: their games only come out on PlayStation when they’re launched. But there’s a standout: the co-op shooter Helldivers 2. It’s already a big hit on PC, breaking Sony’s usual pattern. Now, insiders suggest it might also make its way to Xbox down the road.

PlayStation Shooter on Xbox: What are the Chances

Sony has been drawing in new gamers to the PlayStation 5 with its lineup of large exclusive games. While this strategy has proven effective, it also means that many potential customers are left out. However, Helldivers 2 recently showcased another approach. This co-op shooter stormed onto the PC platform Steam and has held its ground ever since. Could this success prompt Sony to reconsider its approach?

Nick Baker, from the Xbox Era Podcast, hints at potential developments within Sony. This well-known insider suggests that Sony is in the early stages of discussions about bringing Helldivers 2 to Xbox consoles. Baker clarifies that this should not be mistaken for an official announcement. There are many variables at play that could jeopardize any potential collaboration between PlayStation and Xbox

PS5 and Xbox: Exclusive Games Be Coming to an End?

Helldivers 2 is developed by Arrowhead but is distributed by Sony. With the shooter’s simultaneous release on PS5 and PC, Sony appears to be more open to experimentation. Sony’s CEO, Hiroki Totoki, has hinted that launching games across multiple platforms could lead to increased profits.

PS5 and Xbox Exclusive Games Be Coming to an End

Meanwhile, Microsoft has taken a step forward by announcing four exclusive Xbox games for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It would only seem fair for Sony to reciprocate with Helldivers 2. While titles like God of War or Marvel’s Spider-Man eventually made their way to PC (after a considerable wait), Xbox has consistently missed out on major gaming blockbusters. Xbox players are eager for a change and have even launched a successful petition to bring the shooter to their platform.
